Education and Experience

Successful candidates must be in good standing (or in the process of obtaining membership) with the Ontario College of Teachers. Additional qualifications and/or experience in E.S.L., Special Education, Computers in the Classroom, Cooperative Learning and/or Native Studies and previous teaching experience in a northern First Nation setting are an asset but not a requirement. Teachers of First Nation ancestry are encouraged to apply.

Teaching Opportunities in the North

Each local Education Authority offers competitive salaries, relocation assistance, holiday travel and benefits.

  • Salary levels range from $34,700 to $69,500 depending on qualifications and experience
  • Benefit package includes medical, dental and vision coverage
  • Travel benefits include two round trip airfares
  • Schools are equipped with computer labs, audio-visual materials, sport equipment, library and resource materials
  • Professional development opportunities are provided
  • Internet, cable, satellite and phone services are available
  • Furnished accommodations range from $400 - $500 monthly and includes heat and electricity. Cable and phone are the teacher's expense
