Summary
Shibogama First Nations Council is hiring a Patient Navigator to support First Nations clients in the Sioux Lookout District with accessing medical services and navigating the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Patient Navigator will act as a liaison, advocate, and resource for clients, Chiefs & Councils, and service providers. This full-time role is key to improving patient care, reducing barriers, and ensuring culturally sensitive services for Shibogama’s member communities.
Details
The Patient Navigator manages and delivers liaison services between First Nations clients, service providers, and government health programs. Responsibilities include advocating for clients experiencing difficulties with NIHB, coordinating with Tribal Councils and health directors, tracking denials and appeals, and providing education on eligibility and processes. The role requires strong communication, reporting, and cultural advocacy skills, with quarterly and annual reporting obligations. Qualifications include post-secondary education in health or related fields, three years’ experience with First Nations organizations, knowledge of health policies, fluency in Oji-Cree, and a valid driver’s license.
Good understanding of the Social Determinates of Health In Indigenous Populations in the region.
Preference will be given to candidates who self identify as Indigenous Canadians.
