Summary

The Mental Wellness Counsellor with the Shibogama Community Mental Wellness Team provides culturally appropriate counselling and support to individuals, families, and communities within Shibogama First Nations. Working collaboratively with local health staff and leadership, the counsellor helps address mental health and addictions concerns, supports crisis prevention and intervention, and strengthens community capacity through education, counselling, and culturally grounded approaches to healing.

Details

This position reports to the Clinical Lead and involves delivering community-based mental health services, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting crisis response efforts. The role also includes developing and facilitating wellness workshops, participating in team collaboration and case management, and pursuing ongoing professional development. Applicants should have a relevant degree (e.g., Social Work or Psychology), at least two years of related experience, knowledge of Indigenous healing practices, and the ability to travel regularly to remote First Nations communities. Fluency in Oji-Cree and membership in a professional regulatory body are considered assets.
