The Mental Health Nurse provides culturally safe, trauma-informed care to individuals and families in the remote First Nations communities of Wapekeka, Wunnumin, and Kingfisher Lake. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the nurse supports clients experiencing mental health and substance use challenges through assessment, counselling, crisis intervention, and health promotion. This role focuses on building community resilience, improving access to coordinated mental health services, and promoting healing that integrates both traditional and clinical approaches.

Reporting to the Mental Wellness Clinical Lead and Nursing Programs Manager, the Mental Health Nurse delivers direct mental health care, develops individualized treatment plans, and collaborates with community health teams, physicians, and telepsychiatry services. Responsibilities include providing crisis support, facilitating referrals, and leading mental wellness education and outreach activities.
Candidates must be a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with at least two years of experience in mental health or addictions nursing, preferably in Indigenous or remote settings. Strong skills in trauma-informed care, crisis response, and harm reduction are essential. The role requires flexibility to work in fly-in/fly-out environments, on-call availability, and comfort working with limited local resources. Indigenous knowledge, language skills, and familiarity with traditional healing are considered strong assets.
