Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Language Co-ordinator is responsible for creating, promoting, supporting, and implementing partnerships and working relations with the local school authorities and schools. The Language Co-ordinator will help and support the language and culture programs and work with the local community Language and Culture staff.

Details

Must work and liaise closely with local education staff, education committee, and parents to support the school’s language needs

Evaluate and monitor to recommend improvements in the language programs

Make recommendations and strategies to ensure effective language programs to the student’s needs

Assist communities in identifying their priorities regarding the revitalization of language in the community and school

Assist the principal in the communities to ensure effective language strategic programming for language

Develop curriculum with local education staff and education committee to support language retention and revitalization

Prepare updates, briefing notes and presentations

Provide analysis and updates to the communities on all applicable education policies and regulations affecting the students

Organize language fairs and events as required to promote language in the communities

Provide translation of materials as required for student use in the classroom

Participate and attend meetings as required

Provide any other duties as directed

Qualifications:

Degree/diploma in education and/or experience in the field of education will be considered

Effective communication skills; fluency in Oji-Cree and English an asset

Experience in writing curriculum an asset

Must be able to travel
