Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Education, the Education Partnership Liaison Worker (EPP) is responsible for creating, promoting, supporting, and implementing partnerships with provincial school boards to strengthen educational opportunities for off-reserve secondary students. The Liaison carries out activities under the Education Partnerships Program (EPP) Joint Implementation Plan to enhance the scope and quality of education programs and services available to Shibogama First Nations students attending provincially funded schools. This position plays a critical role in advancing EPP educational initiatives and maintaining effective relationships with First Nations and provincial district school boards (DSBs). In addition, the EPP Liaison will implement a mentorship program to support students transitioning into high school, ensuring they receive guidance and encouragement to succeed.

Details

Duties & Responsibilities:

Work and liaise closely with SESS staff, Shibogama Education Authority, local education directors, and parents to support the students attending provincial schools.

Help plan appropriate Professional Development activities for teachers of First Nation students in Provincial schools.

Assist with the implementation of specific EPP activities at the provincially funded school level.

Foster positive relationships between First Nation schools and Board schools by promoting effective and ongoing communication between them.

Plan, implement, and evaluate specific transition activities to ensure the smooth integration of First Nation students in Board schools by ensuring First Nations schools' transition processes are aligned with their receiving board schools.

Promote and help plan cultural events in Board schools.

Help ensure that First Nation and Provincial schools are aware of the EPP program, its activities and opportunities.

Encourage and facilitate the involvement of First Nation students in Board school sports and extra-curricular programs.

Maintain ongoing contact with First Nation and provincial schools in their EPP area.

Prepare regular progress reports for the Education Partnership table.

Participate as requested in EPP Lead Meetings and in the Education Partnership Table meetings.

Deliver presentations at Partnership Table Meetings, teacher conferences, workshops and symposia as requested.

Help ensure that current tuition agreements are in place with assigned Boards and make appropriate recommendations for effective implementation of these agreements.

Help ensure alignment between EPP activities and Board FNMI (Aboriginal Education Strategy) funding and activities.

Provide updates, briefing notes, presentations, and facilitate information sessions for Shibogama Education and various audiences.

Write proposals to access funding for various projects. Implement and monitor projects. Prepare reports as necessary.

Provide analysis and updates to the communities on all applicable education policies and regulations affecting the students.

Participate and attend the NAN EPP meetings as required.

Develop project strategies, assess progress, identify risks, and provide recommendations when requested.

Perform other related duties as directed by Shibogama Education Director.

Qualifications:

Degree/diploma in education

Three years of experience in the field of education

Effective communication skills

Fluency in Oji-Cree and English an asset

Experience in writing proposals

Personal Attributes

  • Must be able to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to travel as required.
  • Must provide a current Criminal Record Check.

Working Conditions

  • Travel to Shibogama First Nations communities in all weather.
  • May have to lift, carry, and manage equipment and supplies.
  • May have to work odd or long hours at times to complete special requests or projects.
  • May have to manage several tasks at one time.
  • Must be prepared to deal with emergencies and stressful situations at any time.
