Summary
We are hiring a Community Advocate (Lead) to support community members in navigating healthcare services and addressing barriers to medical treatment. Reporting to the Community Health Director and Health Director, this role provides confidential advocacy, language support, and complaint resolution while recruiting and guiding patient advocates in member communities. The position builds trust with clients, ensures their rights are upheld, and works with health providers to resolve issues and improve healthcare delivery in remote First Nations communities.
Details
The Community Advocate (Lead) ensures patients have safe, equitable access to care by providing advocacy, translation, complaint resolution, and system navigation support. Key duties include recruiting advocates in other communities, building trust with clients, facilitating early and long-term resolutions, and making recommendations for healthcare improvements. Candidates must live in a First Nations community, have experience in health or social programs, and strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of social determinants of health in remote communities and fluency in a Treaty 5 or 9 dialect are essential. Preference will be given to First Nations applicants. Travel, overtime, and ongoing training may be required.
