Shibogama Nursing Services at Musselwhite / Newmont Mine

In 2001, the Musselwhite Agreement was signed between Placer Dome Ltd (later known as the Goldcorp Canada Ltd) and Cat Lake First Nation, North Caribou Lake First Nation, Kingfisher Lake First Nation and Wunnumin Lake First Nations as the signatories to allow and approve for the opening and operation of the gold mine project, known as Musselwhite Mine. The Agreement was witnessed and represented by WINDIGO FIRST NATIONS COUNCIL (Chairman) AND SHIBOGAMA FIRST NATIONS COUNCIL (Executive Director).

As part of the Agreement, the JOINT-VENTURE PARTIES agree that members of THE NATIONS and other Nations affiliated with WINDIGO and SHIBOGAMA should have the opportunity to benefit from the Project.

As part of the Agreement, under Economic and Business Development section, The Parties hereto recognize that the Mine provides opportunities for members of The Nations and members of Other Nations affiliated with WINDIGO or SHIBOGAMA to engage in providing goods and services to the Project and its employees during the Life of the Project.

One of the Specific Business Initiatives that was created by SHIBOGAMA was to enter into CONTRACT for SERVICES between Musselwhite Mine (Customer) and Shibogama Health Authority (Contractor) for the delivery of professional nursing services at the Musselwhite Mine. The Contract for Services between the two parties was signed and implemented and supported by the Shibogama First Nations Council Chiefs.

SHIBOGAMA HEALTH under the Health Director and Nursing Director were delegated to setup, organize, manage and supervise the Musselwhite Nursing Services and its nursing staff. Shibogama Health works closely with the Musselwhite Mine management to ensure the terms of the Nursing Services Agreement is adhered. Shibogama Health hires two full-time nurses and casual nurses on needed basis. The Nursing Director provides the clinical and professional supervision and the assigned Head Nurse oversees the day to day operations with a regular communication with the Nursing Director. The Health Director, Nursing Director and Nurses are accountable to the Shibogama Executive Director.

SHIBOGAMA FIRST NATIONS COUNCIL takes pride in the delivery of the professional nursing services at the Musselwhite / Newmont Mine.
