The Creator's Gift to Mothers

It is our pleasure to let you know about a new whiteboard animation video Shibogama First Nations Council has just completed in partnership with Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre. The video, called The Creator’s Gift to Mothers, was developed to encourage young women and families in our communities to breastfeed their babies. It provides information about the benefits of nourishing our children as our kokums did. We felt it was important to spread this information since the rates of breastfeeding among First Nations women is declining.

The video is available on Youtube at the following link:

The video was funded by the Government of Ontario with the support of the Best Start Resource Centre at Health Nexus. Generous support was provided by Kasabonika Lake Health Authority and a number of breastfeeding mothers in Kasabonika First Nation. Pamela Angees is our very competent narrator. Ontario Native Women’s Association and Sunset Women’s Aboriginal Circle in Sioux Lookout provided valuable assistance and the Sioux Lookout Women’s Hand Drum Group graciously allowed us to use their drum song entitled “The Parents Song”. Please share this link widely with your contacts and with anyone you think would benefit from receiving this information.
